Link your custom domain to your Zipper Site with GoDaddy
How it Works
We'll provide you with a few mappings to enter on your web host's site or portal. Please follow the steps below to set up your Zipper Site with GoDaddy.
- Upgrade your account - Free Zipper accounts can build sites, but only upgraded plans can launch them on custom domains
- Navigate to the ‘Domains’ tab - In the Zipper site builder, click Gear icon > Domains
- Add your custom domain - If you have not added your domain to Zipper, you can do so here by clicking “+Add” and entering the URL.
Please note it might take several minutes for Zipper to confirm the DNS settings, but once confirmed, you’ll see a message stating that “DNS settings are verified” with an option to View DNS Settings
When you click “View DNS settings” you’ll see a menu similar to the one below with three columns. One for “Type”, one for “Name/Host” and one for “Value” … the Name/Host and Value columns are unique to your domain and will help you establish the link between your domain host & your website.
On GoDaddy, navigate to the DNS Management page by clicking “DNS” in the lefthand menu. Once there, select your domain from the dropdown (if you have multiple). Once selected, you might see a list of pre-filled values, which might look similar to what Zipper presented you with.
On GoDaddy, you’ll need to click “Add New Record” to create entries for the rows you see in the Zipper DNS settings modal. These will be for type “A” and type “CNAME” … please note, that if GoDaddy restricts you from adding one because a similar entry already exists, you will need to delete the other entry by clicking the trash can emblem on the corresponding row of GoDaddy’s site in the DNS Management page. You can leave TTL as “Default”.
Once you’ve added these mappings, the linkage between your website on Zipper and your domain will be established. It might take several hours (up to 48, usually less) for the mapping to finalize. The first few loads of your site online will likely be a bit slow, but it’ll speed up shortly after! Congratulations on launching your site!
